Ivermectin is an ingredient that helps to treat the mite that is associated with papulopustolar rosacea when applied daily. This helps to reduce the redness and inflammation associated with this subtype of rosacea.

How do I use the treatment?

Following your consultation with MedExpress, our prescribers will recommend the treatment that is best for you. We typically recommend a topical cream or gel, which will be applied to the affected area as part of your morning and evening skincare routine.

What side effects may I experience?

It’s normal to experience some exacerbation of rosacea symptoms for the first week of treatment. This is due to the active ingredients getting to work, and should reduce with continued use. We will recommend where treatment should be started slowly before gradually increasing treatments where we deem them necessary.

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a common, long-term inflammatory condition of the face causing redness, broken capillaries and red spots. It can be present in women and men and is more common in lighter skin tones.

The cause of rosacea is unknown and it can be made worse with triggers like alcohol, spicy foods, sunlight and hairspray.

There is no cure for rosacea, but there are a number of medications that help to reduce the inflammation and improve the appearance of the condition.

What are the differences between rosacea and acne?

Although it can be difficult to determine the differences between papulopustular rosacea and acne, there are some differences that can be used to differentiate between them.

Redness on the central part of the face, symptoms getting worse when exposed to triggers and flesh coloured whiteheads are typically the symptoms of rosacea. For acne patients, they typically present younger in age and redness is dispersed across the entire face.
